Hiking Juta and the Chaukhi Massif
The most dramatic day hike near Kazbegi.

Juta sits at 2,150 m at the end of a gravel road from Sno. From the village the trail climbs gently through flower meadows towards the jagged Chaukhi peaks.
Most walkers turn around at the Fifth Season hut after two hours; strong hikers continue to the glacial lakes beneath the pass.
Go between late June and mid-September, start early and bring a rain jacket: afternoon storms build quickly.
